You can check your tread depth using an Australian 20 cent coin. Simply insert the coin into one of your tyre’s central grooves, and see if the tread reaches the bill of the platypus. If it doesn’t, that means your tyres have less than 3.0 mm of tread, and it’s time to start looking for a new set. 

Another thing you should keep in mind is the manufacture date. Even if your Ford tyres have plenty of tread left, they need to be replaced if they’re over six years old. That’s because rubber tends to dry and crack over time and possibly cause a dangerous blowout down the road. 

It’s easy to find the tyre manufacturing date for tyres sold in Australia. They should contain identification numbers stamped onto the sidewall, identifying the week and year when the tyres were produced. For instance, an identification number ending in 2910 means that the tyre was produced in the 29th week of 2010.
