A Mazda BT-50 engine delivers the power and torque necessary for heavy hauling and towing. If you need a replacement assembly to get your trusty ute back on the road, we are here to provide assistance.

Jefferson Ford supplies diesel engines for the first and second generations of the Mazda BT-50. Ford owns the rights to manufacture and use Mazda MZ engines, and we have them in stock. Explore the options we offer and place an order today!

First-Generation Mazda BT-50 Engines (2006 – 2011)

The first generation of the Mazda BT-50 shares a similar architecture to the Ford Ranger. They have the same body panels but differ greatly in terms of aesthetics. The Mazda BT-50 has flared wheel-arches and leaf-style headlights to resemble models like the Mazda 3 and the Mazda 6.

The Mazda BT-50 of this generation has either one of the two diesel engines carried over from Ford Duratorq:

  • 2.5 L MZR-CD: This Mazda BT-50 engine delivers 143 HP at 3500 RPM and 243 lb-ft of torque at 1800 RPM. It is used in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models and is available in a five-speed manual transmission.
  • 3.0 L MZR-CD: This Mazda BT-50 engine produces 154 HP at 3200 RPM and 280 lb-ft of torque at 1800 RPM. It is used in all-wheel drive models and is available in five-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Second-Generation Mazda BT-50 Engines (2011 – 2020)

The partnership between Mazda and Ford eventually ended in 2008. However, in spite of the split, the two companies continued to develop their trucks together.

The second generation of the Mazda BT-50 shares fewer elements with the Ford Ranger. The windshield, cabin structure, and parts of the chassis are the only structural components shared between the two vehicles.

The Mazda BT-50 of this generation has either one of the two diesel engines carried over from Ford Duratorq:

  • 2.2 L MZ-CD: This Mazda BT-50 engine delivers 150 HP at 3700 RPM and 277 lb-ft of torque at 1500 RPM. It is used in rear-wheel drive models and is available in five- and six-speed manual transmissions.
  • 3.2 L MZ-CD: This Mazda BT-50 engine can produce 200 HP at 3000 RPM and 347 lb-ft of torque at 1750 RPM. It is used in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models and is available in six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Jefferson Ford offers engine assemblies for both generations of the Mazda BT-50 at highly competitive prices.

What are the benefits of using a Mazda BT-50 engine?

There is no doubt that the Mazda BT-50 houses a powerful engine under the hood, regardless of generation. It has a heavy towing capacity that enables it to carry tremendous weight without struggling. You can hook up a boat or a camper trailer to go on trips with your friends and family. The Mazda BT-50 engine has the capacity to take more stuff than you need for any weekend or holiday getaway.

Order a complete engine assembly from our website and get right back to enjoying these benefits! If you’re unsure which engine is compatible with your vehicle, give us a call. We would be glad to share our expertise on the matter with you.

How to maintain a Mazda BT-50 engine?

The Mazda BT-50 engine is built for rough trailing and heavy towing, but it also demands proper care and maintenance. If you abuse its capabilities, you risk diminishing its service life and spending on repair costs. Even the most robust engines have limitations, but you can extend their longevity by adhering to these best practices:

  • Drive your ute at least twice every two weeks to allow the diesel particulate filter to regenerate.
  • Avoid shutting off the engine immediately after heavy hauling or towing.
  • Have the engine serviced at regular intervals with a qualified mechanic.
  • Avoid running on reserve fuel to prevent contaminants from reaching the engine.
  • Always check for leaks when your truck is parked.
  • Try not to slam your vehicle into rocks or submerge it in rivers when off-roading.

The better you treat your engine, the longer it will last. Check out our online catalogue to find a compatible replacement assembly for your truck.
